Introduction

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET) was set up in 1989 by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development,Government of India with an aim to achieve technological excellence through innovation.The Institute fulfills all aspects of the New Education Policy, 1986 and revised programme of Action,1990.The SLIET has different programmes at certificate, Diploma and Degree levels. The institute gives its own certificates and diploma testimonials to pass-outs and courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The institute will soon get the status of deemed university by the act of parliament.At present it has been afiliated to Technical University,Jalandhar for the award of degree.

The Instiute is to be established with the budget of 150 crores out of which 90 crores have already spend.SLIET is being set up in the area of 451 acres.The Institute will get the status of an University by an act of Parliament.AT present,it is controlled by SLIET society, registered under the Socities Registration Act,1860.

The Institute is running 12 Certificate courses,10 Diploma courses and 8 Degree courses.There is a plan to start master streams (M. Tech. & M.B.A.) in the institute soon.

Status

SLIET is an auto-nomous body and is fully funded by Government of India.SLIET society regietereed under the act of Socities Registration Act,1860.The certificate programme of the institute has been declared equivakent to (10+2) for service purpose by Government of India,Ministry of human resource & development (Department of Education) vide Notification(42)(No. F. 18-8/93-TD.V/TS.IV dated 8th March,1995).

The Section-A of AMIE has been exempted by Institution of Engineers for diploma holders of SLIET in Electronics,Computer Science and Instrumentation Engineering(vide letter No. EEA/AKG/R-22A dated Feburary 20,1995). Exemption for other diploma courses is being persuded.SLIET is being set up in the area of 451 acres.
