Procedure for Admisison to various Programs:

There are three programs being run in this Institute:

• Certificate Program
• Diploma Program
• Degree Program

Ceritificate Program 

The objective of the certificate program is to produce technically skilled manpower in appropriate areas. The product of this Institute shall be able to find ample occupational avenues.The meritorious students who wish to study further may join the advance programs of SLIET to acquire higher qualificationt.

• Entry Qualification :

The minimum qualification for admission to the certificate program is 10th pass from state secondary education board/cbse/icse or equivalen

• Duration :

The duration of the Certificate program is two years.

• Disciplines of Study :

Admission is available in the following programs as given on academics button

Diploma Program :

The objective of the Diploma program is to produce middle level technical manpower, Greater stress is given for pratical oriented classwork in the Institute with an extensvie training in Industry.

• Vertical Entry Seats only for SLIET students.
• Direct Entry Seats for SLIET students and other outside candidates.

Vertical Entry Seats only for SLIET students : For vertical promotion from Certificate course to Diploma course against these reserved seats, the Certificate course students shall appear in a speacial entrance test designed for them in order to enter the diploma stream. Inter-se merit of such candidates shall be based on 80% weightage of their score in the entrance test and 20% weightage of their score in their qualifying Certificate course provided that the student had got addmission in Certificate course in 1996 at not earlier and had completed the course in the prescribed period of normal study i.e. 2 years and by availing only prescribed chances to clear a subject. Prescribed chances to clear a subject are one regular and two supplementary chances. However, a student having supplementary in sixth trimester that is the last trimester, shall be given only one supplementary chance before the date of admission to claim vertical promotion. There shall be no condition regarding the minimum of CGPA in the certificate course.

Direct Entry Seats : All India Entrance test is conducted by the institute for admission to these seats on the basis of merit. Non-SLIET candidates with qualifications as per Information brochure and SLIET students of Cerificate course are eligible to get admission through this test. The SLIET students competing for direct entry seats shall be treated completely at per with the outside(Non-SLIET) candidates for admission to this category.

• Entry Qualification:

The minimum qualification for admission to the Diploma programs is 10+2 pass with Physics,Chemistry, Mathematics from a recognized Board/University or a Certificate from SLIET.

• Duration :

  The duration of Diploma programs is two years.

• Disciplines of Study :

  Admission is available in the various programs as given on academics button.

Degree Program :

Degree progrem is a continuation of technical expertise acquired in corresponding diploma program and offers an opportunity to diploma holders to obtain degree in engineering & technology.

There are two categoreis of seats in this program.

• Vertical Entry Seats only for SLIET students and outside candidates.
• Direct Entry seats for SLIET students and outside candidates.

Vertical Entry Seats: The merit for vertical entry seats i.e. vertical promotion from Diploma course to Degree course, shall be propared on the basis of 80% weightageof their score in the Entrance Test and 20% weightage of their score in their qualifying Diploma course provided that the students had got admission diploma course in 1996 and not earlier and had comleted the diploma course in the prescribed period of normal study i.e. two years and by availing only prescribed chances to clear a subject. Prescribed chances to clear a subject are one regular and two supplementary chances. However, a student having supplementary 6th Trimester i.e. the last trimester shall be given only one supplementry chances before the date of admission to claim vertical promotion.

There shall be no condition regarding the minimum of C.G.P.A in the Diploma course.

Direct Entry Seats: The admission to these seats are on the basis of merit of All India Entrance Test for this program. The SLIET students competing for Direct Entry Seats shall be treated completely at per with the outside (Non-SLIET) candidates for admission to this category.

• Entry qualification

The following catagories of candidates shall be eligible for admisison in degree program.

1. Diploma holder of SLIET

2. Diploma holders of polytechnics affiliated with the State Board of Technical
    Education approved by AICTE.

• Duration

  The duration of degree program is three years.

• Discipline of Study

  Admission is available in various degree program as given on academic button.
  

Note :

1. The cut off date for the fresh admission to the degree program shall be subject to the statutory provisions of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar with which this Institute if affiliated for degree courses.

2. The cut-off date for fresh admission to Certificate and Diploma programs shall be 15 days after the start of classes of 1st Trimester.

3. No admission shall be made after the cut-off date.

4. If two/more candidates are having the same merit, then the candidate who is elder in age as per the relevant entry in class Xth Certificate shall be placed  at higher merit. If still there is a tie, then a candidate having higher marks in the qualifying  examination for eligibilty for admission shall be placed at higher merit.

Reservation of Seats:

Seats are reserved for the following categories of Direct Admisison candidates as per decision of State/Central Goverment:

• Certificate Program

  (a) Quota for Punjab State                  :      75%

  (b) Quota for Other State                   :      25%

• Diploma Program

  (a) Quota for Punjab State                 :      50%

  (b) Quota for Other State                  :      50%

  Candidates who pass the qualifying examination from a school/college situated in the state of Punjab will be treated under quota for Punjab State : Other will be considered under the quota for other States and U.T.

• Degree Program

  There is no reservation for State quota in Degree program.

• Reservation for SC/ST candidates for admission in above programs

  1. Schedule Castes   :   15%

  2. Sechedule Tribe   :    7.5%

General Information:

• Candidate appearing in the qualifying test for admission is provisionally allowed to appear in the entrance test, subject in production of certificate of his/her having passed the qualifying examination, before admission date, falling which his/her candidature shall be deemed to have been cancelled.

• Candidates seeking admission is SLIET have to apply on prescribed from by due date as per datails given in this brochure.

• Selection for admisison will be made strictly on the basis of merit determined in SLIET Entrance Test conducted separately for Certificate, Diploma and Degree programs.

  For Admision in Degree program : There will be separate merit list for 1. Chemical & Food Technology, 2. Computer Scienced and Engineering, 3. Electronics & Communication Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering 4. Mechanical Engineering. Candidate who qualifies in the Entrance Test will be admitted in the same program in which h/she has appeared. For example a candidate who qualifies the test by appearing in Chemical & Food Technology will be eligible for admision to Degree Program in Chemical Technology or Food Technology as per his/her Merit, but not in any other program. Trimester system is being followed for certificate and diploma programs and semester system for Degree programs.

  Academic Calendar shall be given to all the admitted students at the time of their admission.

• It is expected that the applicants will have good general physique with chest measurement not less than 70cm. with satisfactory limits of expansion and normal vision and hearing. In case of defective vision, it must be corrected to 6/9 in both eyes or 6/6 in the better eye. Defective hearing should also be corrected. There should be no abnormality in heart and lungs and history of mental disease and epileptic fits.

  The candidate should attach a medical certificate of fitness from a Govt. Doctor not below the rank A.M.O.

• Scholarships may be provided to the meritorious candidates as per norms of Cental Goverment and Punjab Goverment.

Withdrawal from Admission:

A candidate after taking admission in the Institute may withdraw his/her admission with a written request to the Director through Dean (S & W). The Insitute Leaving Certificate will be issued on request on the prescribed proforma and depositing Rs. 10/- in the Accounts Section. However, separate application is to be made for the payment of the refundable money.

SLIET Entrance Test :

The all India Entrance Test conducted for admission to Certificate , Diploma and Degree program is termed as SLIET Entrance Test-I(SET-I), SLIET Entrance Test-II(SET-II) and SLIET Entrance Test-III (Set-III) respectively.

The separate test for admisison to Diploma Program for SLIET students(vertical promotion) shall be termed as SLIET Entrance Test-IV (Set-IV) and shall be conducted only for the SLIET students on a separte date which shall be announced later on. The Diploma students of SLIET shall appear in the SET-III of All India Test for vertical promotion to Degree program seats reserved for SLIET students as per the rules of promotion for these seats as well as for getting admisison against direct entry seats as per the rules for this admisison for these seats.

Pattern of Examination :

SET-I will have two papers each of two hours duration. Paper-I will include English,General Awareness & Math and Paper-II will partain to Physics and Chemistry.

SET-II will have two papers. Paper-I will include English and Maths & paper-II will include physics & chemistry, each of two hours duration.

SET-III shall have two papers. Paper-I will pertain to Maths, General Knowledge and Mental Aptitude. Paper-II will pertain to one of the disciplines in four groups viz; 1. Chemical & Food Technology ; 2. Computer Scienece & Engineering ; 3. Electronics & Communication and instrumentation Engineering and 4. Mechanical Engineering. Each paper will be of two hours duration.

SET-IV shall have two papers. Paper-I will include physics, Chemistry, Math & English studied in Certificate program and Paper-II will include Trader syllabii studies in Certificate Pragram.
